Greeting Remarks

Hello, eveyone. I’m Dae-Ha Kwon, the director of Myeong-dong International Art Festival(MIAF).

I’m very pleased to hold the 8th Myeong-dong International Art Festival(MIAF 2023), titled “K-ART SHOW SEOUL” in
Myeong-dong ahead of the December closing this year, where was not only the center of culture and art in the past but
also is one of the most popular tourist destination in the present.

Kim Gu, Korean independence activist emphasized the importance of cultural power and called on Korea to become a
cultural powerhouse. Today, we are facing Korea as a cultural powerhouse Kim wished so much. Korea has created the
new culture called ‘K-Culture’ ranging from K-drama to K-pop and now is a cultural powerhouse recognized throughout
the world. I’m sure it’s the turn of K-Art.

The motto of MIAF 2023, turning eight this year is “K-Art, from Myeong-dong to New York and to the World” and it has
about 40 galleries and 400 artists both at home and abroad, including Korean artists in different countries in the world.
The 2,000 artworks are put on displayed in 52 room booths of LOTTE Hotel Seoul for 4 days, including the artworks of
the world-renowned national and international artists, Korean rising artists and the hidden K-artists around the world.
Also, there are various exhibitions such as special exhibition on Masters in the world, Yayoi Kusama, Moon Jar, New
York etc., project exhibition and contest exhibition.

I hope that MIAF 2023 will give the opportunity to comprehend the past, the present and the future of K-art connecting
K and art with a hyphen, expending its originality and seeking for its direction. Furthermore, I expect K-Art to move
from Myeong-dong to New York and to the world with MIAF now and for ever.

I’m very grateful for the many supporters and the members of the Operaitng Committee for MIAF 2023 K-ART SHOW
SEOUL. Most of all, I’d like to thank all the galleries and artists to be with MIAF 2023 in LOTTE Hotel Seoul and hope
all of you will achieve great results.
