DAE HUN KWON
Dae Hun Kwon is the first Korean artist who was awarded ‘The Jack Goldhill Award‘ for sculpture from The Royal
Academy in London(2011). He created his unique visual language through his art pieces that often capture an
instant moment.
He obtained his BA in Sculpture and MA in Fine Art from Seoul National University; he also received an MA in
Sculpture from the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL in London.
Kwon tries to capture the space of thought that once existed in his mind. What he tries to remind the audience
of is not just memory of the moment, but of himself, who once was living and existing in that moment. The
execution of his works represents a space within a space that cannot be reached physically.
“The work is an attempt to capture an instant moment of the moment [chalna]; especially those moments of
enlightenment imbued in my memory. In my work, I tried to embody the imprinted moments formed with psychological
altitude emotional element, a new discovery or an opposing element of experienced. And to have the temporal concept
of the “present” in which the circumstances occurred expressed as an artwork, the contrast and coloration extracted
from the “present” were transferred on the sculpture of human body." he said.
