                               SYLVAIN TREMBLAY

Sylvain Tremblay invites you to enter his world; a surreal space that lies between realism and pure abstraction.
The artist seeks out inspiration through his own history and life experiences. Also over the years, he has managed
to establish an incredibly strong and unique creative language. His process is not one that is precisely calculated,
                               but rather instinctual.

“When I paint, I find it impossible to analyze my work method. It’s instinctive. I want the public to be able to interpret it
in their own way. I want to leave a certain vagueness, so that viewers can discover the work and feel it for themselves.
I always appreciate it when people tell me what they see or perceive: for me, that’s what the work is about. All of this
                               requires me to be flexible.”
Using mixed media, acrylics and, in some areas, a topcoat of varnish, he creates human forms in a matte finish; set
against an abstract background of colour planes. His works are almost sculptural; the roughly sketched figures
seem to emerge through the backdrops and come forward out of the canvas.

Sylvain Tremblay was born in Quebec City and he studied commercial art, graphic design and art history at
College Ste-Foy in Quebec. Among his many participations and recognitions around the world is that he was
one of three Canadians to represent Canada for the G20 in China(2016), presented the world premiere of
the documentary Leonardo da Vinci at the Château du Clos Lucé in France(2017). In addition,he was chosen
by UNESCO to create a mask and participate in the Mask Art exhibition as part of World Day of Cultural
                               Diversity(2020).
