GENERAL ASSEMBLY: tribute for a new academic year embracing the #NewNormal
As the pandemic still continues to hinder classes from being
physically conducted in school premises, Southville colleges have been
embracing the implementation of online classes and successfully started
a new semester last August 10, 2020. Recently, to welcome and appraise
the last Academic year, their first online general assembly happened last
September 2, 2020. In the morning, college courses were divided and
scheduled in separate Zoom meetings to cater to all the students. Part
of the first morning sessions included the Nursing and Psychology
courses which was led by Dr. Carmelita Villegas of BS Nursing and Dr.
Ruel Cajili from BS Psychology. This assembly was also intended for the
4th Organization Recognition Awards to commend and appreciate how
different college organizations give color and impact to college life.
Moreover, two of the freshmen Psychology students last academic year, Kryzelle Grace Lorilla and Jimin
Yoo, were awarded as Rising Stars for their great contribution to their college organization. More so,
another two BS Psychology students were awarded the title “Unsung Heroes” who are Jesi Katherine
Mateo and Jodi Chrissie Sta. Maria. The Psychology Society was recognized as well with the “Outstanding
Educational Program Award” and “Legacy Award” for the success on the event “A World Mental Health: A
Talk About Suicide Prevention”, which was said to have created a positive impact on SISC.
On the afternoon of the same day, Break-out sessions were held for different courses while being
led by their corresponding deans and organization officers. BS Psychology was led by Dean Ruel Cajili with
other faculty members and Psych Soc officers, led by Vianne Jiwatramani. The session was excellently
hosted by Mr. Ethan Mangubat, a sophomore Psych student, giving a smooth flow of the program. The
session started with the heartfelt welcoming from our very own dean, then the mood brightened even
further by the greetings and statements from the stars of Psychology: Ms. Jodi Sta. Maria, Hope “Liza”
Soberano and Mariko “Mika” Dela Cruz. It was followed by important key points and reminders from the
Dean and other moderators, followed by an enticing Tik Tok presentation from the freshmen. Then the
highlight of the program, the awarding and recognition of Top Psychology Students, started as Dean Ruel,
with Ms. Dee as the moderator, showed the certificates and called out the names of the awardees which
created excitement for awarded students, for their efforts paid off despite the pandemic and them being
recognized had given inspiration to the new members of the Psych family. Of course, to lift up the mood,
the program never forgets a special number; Nina Basilio and Jimin Yoo shared their talents in singing, and
the games, directed by JJ Jamias and Fritz Pacson, were initiated in between program flows. The program
was formally closed by Ms. Eulalia Rosales, surveys were given and of course no one could forget about the
photo opt. It was a long yet meaningful day for everyone, and had made everyone miss and reminisce about
