ABSTRACT
This study aimed to establish other fields of interest of Grade 11 students of CAA National
Highschool. The 5-year outreach program of AB Communication is intended to monitor the
progress of participating Grade 11 students in the given programs or topics. Based on the survey,
aside from oral and written communication, MS Office, Adobe Photoshop and In Design, the
majority of the participants expressed interest in video editing. The fifth phase implementation
of the Basic Education Enrichment Program (BEEP) is focused on Basic Video Editing. The
Grade 11 students of CAA National Highschool attended two sessions to learn the basics in
video editing. Survey questionnaires were distributed before the start of the first session to learn
what they know about editing. They were given activities so they can apply what they have
learned and after their second session, another set of survey questionnaires were distributed to
compare their proficiency level before and after participating in the basic video editing
workshop. The results measured their level of improvement in using the video editing software.
They have little to moderate knowledge in using windows movie maker and Adobe Premier Pro
before and after participating in the basic editing workshop. Adobe Premier Pro got the highest
increase in mean score of 1.71 while 0.93 for iMovie got the lowest. In terms of using the
software interface of Adobe Premier Pro, they have little knowledge in using library, preview
monitor, storyboard, task bar, select tool, track select forward and backward tool, hand and zoom
tool. Most of the participants have very little knowledge in using ripple edit tool, rolling edit, rate
stretch, razor, slip, side, pen and hand tool. The proficiency level of the participants improved in
using most of the tools from very little and little to moderate. Their level of proficiency in using
select and zoom tool started from little knowledge to great which showed significant
improvement. Using Hand tool got the highest increase in mean score which is 2.09 while
library got the lowest which is 1.37. The 6 areas increased in using the software interface from
little to moderate are library, preview monitor, storyboard, task select forward, backward and
zoom tool while the other 9 areas improved from very little to moderate. The third component of
the survey is focused on the video editing process where most of them answered that they have
little to moderate and great knowledge in importing media files, adding files to timeline, remove
unwanted video footage, mute video, unlink audio and video, adding audio, effects, titles,
transitions, tracks to timeline, changing video speed, reversing video, adding subtitles and using
text for subtitles before and after participating in the workshop. Producing/ rendering video
scored very little knowledge to great before and after the workshop and got the highest increase
in mean score which is 2.06 while adding audio got the lowest which is 1.14. Nine areas
increased from little to moderate while the remaining six areas from little to great improvement.
The results showed that they can still develop their video editing skills through constant
hands-on practice and training. The AB Communication Arts student’s dedication to impart their
knowledge and skills to Grade 11 students of CAA National Highschool can also open
opportunities and discoveries to hone their craft and creativity in producing great things in the
future.
