ABSTRACT
Filipino millennials were seen to be vocal about their contentment or dissatisfaction with their
body image. The research was focused on the analysis of perfectionism and avoidant attachment
as correlates to diet beliefs among the Filipino millennial adults with body dysmorphic disorder
symptoms. Millennials in Metro Manila took a screening tool to be a part of this study; scoring
20 and above qualified them to be a part of the research. Results suggest that millennials with
body dysmorphic disorder symptoms generally have high standards for themselves. Majority of
them enjoy creating close relationships with people around their social circle. The results further
suggest that the millennial adults possess both good and bad food perceptions. The hypotheses
that there is no significant relationship between perfectionism and avoidant attachment of the
respondents and no significant relationship between perfectionism and avoidant attachment of
the respondents are rejected. Concerns over mistakes and doubts about actions had a low
positive relationship with avoidant attachment. This means that respondents who feel upset
when making mistakes may inhibit negative emotions in themselves. Likewise, respondents with
parents who set high expectations and overly critical of them hinders them from depending on
others for help and would rather achieve goals alone. Family members of the millennials were
encouraged to create a safe environment for respondents to openly discuss their struggles with
perfection, interpersonal relationships, eating beliefs, and body image issues. Future researchers
are recommended to conduct research that aims to assist millennials to cope with body
dysmorphic disorder symptoms.
