ZITHER
Another progeny of the string
family, Zither’s origin takes us to
ancient Europe. Its peculiarity lies
in the fact that it’s strings are of
the same length as the soundboard.
Placed on the musician’s lap, the
player uses their left hand to press
the strings while the plectrum is
worn on the right thumb and the
other fingers of the right hand strike
the contrabass strings.
NYCKELHARPA
Having its roots in Sweden,
Nyckelharpa is a 12 stringed
instrument akin to the present-day
violin. Also called the key-harp, it
has keys signifying frets, and strings
when struck by a bow, causes a
built-in-reverb! It is tuned in such a
way that when one string is struck,
at least one other string resonates
with it.
GLOCKENSPIEL
A musical percussion instrument
having a set of tuned metal
pieces mounted in a frame and
struck with small hammers. The
glockenspiel, additionally, it is
usually smaller, and because of both
its material and smaller size is
higher in pitch. The bars are
arranged in two rows, the second
corresponding to the black keys of
the piano.
