A look back at 2018
January - June
Some of the highlights of the first half of 2018 include a farewell cer- emony in March for the old stadium at Orosi High School (Top Photo) that included Cardinal's coaching legend Ed Coats.
The race for the new Tulare County Supervisor between Dr. Kuldip Thusu and Eddie Valero (top right) went Valero's way. Valero takes over as Su- pervisor this year and Thusu takes over as Dinuba City Mayor.
In April, Dinuba Relay for Life (Above-left) raised over $60,000 to help find a cure for cancer.
Melissa Valdez (left) was crowned Cinco De Mayo Queen at the end of April.
But the year began on a somber note, as Dinuba lost Mary Newton, (above) who died Jan. 5 at the age of 103.

Assault, robbery, DUI crash among New Year's Eve events
Sentinel staff report
Aside from numerous calls of shots fired and illegal fireworks, the Dinuba Police Department had an eventful night leading into the New Year. The night included an assault and robbery as well as a DUI traffic collision.
According to Sgt. Ryan Robison of the Dinuba Police Department, officers responded to a call on West North Way regarding an assault and robbery. Police say a woman was walking in the evening hours when she was approached by two men and a woman.
According to Robison, the woman was asked by the three subjects if she wanted to go to a party. When she refused, he said one of the subjects struck her over the head with a flashlight and then took her backpack and ran off.
The suspects in the crime remain at large.
The Dinuba Police Department also made one DUI arrest after a traffic collision on the north end of town. According to police, 35-year-old Mark Lopez was travelling westbound on Nebraska Avenue when he attempted to turn southbound onto North Eaton Avenue.
While attempting to make the turn, officers say Lopez crashed into a parked vehicle and pushed it into another parked vehicle near the intersection of Nebraska and North Eaton avenues. The collision reportedly caused damage to both the parked vehicles as well as Lopez’s vehicle.
His vehicle later came to a stop as a result of the damage sustained and he was later arrested near the scene. No injuries were reported.

Dinuba Police asking for public's assistance in nding suspects of commercial burglary
Sentinel staff report
The Dinuba Police Department is currently looking for subjects who allegedly stole an ATM machine from a liquor store in the 900 block of North Alta Avenue on Christmas morning.
According to police, the crime took place just after 4:00 a.m. on Dec. 25 at the Liquor Locker on North Alta Avenue. Police say the subjects approached the business in a silver Sports Utility Vehicle and used the vehicle to ram the cage doors located at the front of the entrance.
The force of the impact allowed the suspects entry into the store. Upon entering the store, police say the suspects were able to take an ATM machine located at
the front of the store. Police say the machine contained about $2,400 in cash.
The ATM machine was later located, destroyed and abandoned within the city of Fresno.
According to the owners of Liquor Locker, the machine belonged to a third party agency, and aside from the damage done to the store front, the business was fortunate to not have sustained any further theft.
Dinuba Police Detectives are currently investigating the case and are asking for the public’s assistance for any information or leads in relation to the case.
Anyone with additional information regarding the commercial burglary is asked to call the Dinuba Police Department at 591-5911 or 591-TIP1 to remain anonymous.
