WELFARE OFFICE
Staff Sergeant David Steele
2022 has seen a busy year within the welfare department, as the regiment embarks on operations in Mali.
First up, January welcomed in our new Padre, Reverend Michael Rutter. The welfare team look forward working together and wish Padre Rutter the best during his time with the Regiment.
With B Sqn deploying first and the regiment conducting training for deployment in the latter part of the year, the welfare department was busy planning for future events for their families left behind. It was also a time of change within the welfare department, where we said goodbye to Sgt Del Brooke, who was entering his transition from the army and onto pastures new. This was soon followed with the retirement of Mrs Susan Rooney, and the end of a chapter for Capt James Mcaleese, who transitioned out the army. On behalf of the welfare department, we would like to thank you all for your hard work and wish you all the best in the future.
April came with an Easter treasure hunt for the kids to solve an Easter cryptic clue. The winners received a nice prize for their effort and afterwards, the families enjoyed taking part in a colouring in competition. Next up was our Combat Camp Out, considering it was June, the weather said otherwise. With
the rain falling from the heavens this didn’t dampen the spirits, and the fire pit was well appreciated. Games of football, rounders, and a night-time navigation challenge, using some thermal sights to get them around the route.
Families of B Sqn enjoyiing their Sunday Lunch
With a new summer upon us, this came with new faces into the welfare department, as Sgt David Kelly became the welfare SNCO, followed with SSgt Davy Steel taking over as the new UWWO. The team hit the ground running, with activities and Sunday lunches for the families of B Squadron. Two great events for the families to relax and for the kids to go wild on the bouncy castle and have their face painted in fine style.
With Millie at the helm driving the Friday coffee mornings, it has been a chance to engage with the Regimental Curator. Linking both coffee mornings and our Curators entertainment. It was great to see the turn out for the craft days, with little paper tanks all over the place, and loads of fresh homemade cake worthy of any great baker.
As we entered October there was a change of Commanding Officer. The welfare department would like to thank Millie for all her hard work over the past two years, and for being that all important link between welfare and the families. We wish Lt Col Graeme Craig, Millie, and the boys all the best on their next post. We also would like to welcome, Lt Col Ben Parkyn, wife Annabel and their two children.
Halloween this year, for the first time in two years since restrictions lifted, enabled there to be a large Halloween party. The kids took advantage, and were able to dawn their scary costumes, as did the welfare team. With Halloween themed music and entertainment, it was an afternoon
