put their weeks’ work into practice. Thanks
to some good drills and excellent leadership from the Section Commanders, the attacks were a success, in particular, the final attack at night, where the skills and drills had become so slick, you could hear a pin drop as the Sections effectively destroyed the enemy.
In week two, we deployed to Sennybridge for continuation training. Section level actions were again the focus, with navigation, contact drills, recce’s, more Section attacks and new urban techniques being the main focus of the week. This culminated in a Platoon attack at Cellini Village, where three enemy buildings were cleared. Utilising assets from the Royal Artillery UAS to give a clear battle picture, the Platoon efficiently cleared and worked through the village utilising the skills learnt over the
previous two weeks, clearing the buildings in less than an hour. A great effort from everyone involved.

THE TRANSITION FROM REGULAR TO ARMY RESERVE LIFE
I joined the Army Reserve in February 2021 after leaving the Regular Army in May 2020. I initially joined the Regulars in 2016 and started training to become a member of The Parachute Regiment. I was posted to 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment and became a member of the Mortar Platoon. During my time I served in a variety of different places including exercises in Kenya and America. I was aware of the contribution that the Reserve made to training and operations through the close connection with 4 PARA as they regularly sent Reserves Paratroopers to train and deploy with us on exercises and operations.
I left the Regular Army to spend more
time with my young family and we moved
to the North Devon area. After settling into our new home I found I was missing the challenge and camaraderie of the military.
I contacted the recruiting team from HQ Company 6 RIFLES and spoke to the ReMSO who explained the process of re-joining
and the potential roles that were available, guiding me through the application process which was relatively simple. I was invited into a training evening so I could see first-hand what the Army Reserve was about and was impressed with the professionalism and family atmosphere at the ARC. Since joining
I have attended as much training as I have been able to do, and it has been really good to learn new skills. I have been able to use my experience in the Regulars to assist other newer members of the Company as they find their feet.
With a demanding full-time job as a construction worker and a young family, it can be hard to fit in time with the training. The 6 RIFLES ethos that my family and civilian job come first has been really refreshing. My civilian employer is supportive of my decision to join the Army Reserve
and my line manager is positive about the opportunities for mutually beneficial personal development. I also receive some support from the company to allow me to train with the Reserves.
It is great to be back in the Army and
it is exciting to have access to some
great opportunities with the Reserves. I would definitely recommend investigating opportunities with the Reserves, especially during your transition period.
