Inter Sqn Boxing-Action
The overall results saw 3 Sqn lifting the trophy for the 11th (RSS) Signal Regiment Inter Sqn Boxing Championships 2015.
Regimental Adventurous Training 2015
Austria. True to form the year would not start without a skiing trip. This year Exercise Frosty Tiger VII embarked on the long drive to the Austrian Alps near the village of Neustift and located in the Stubtial Glacier. Over two weeks 36 soldiers participated with the aim of awarding the Ski Foundation 1 (SF1) quali cation, whilst enjoying the test of the Austrian slopes.
Peru. The beginning of the year continued on a high as eighteen soldiers from the Regiment departed for Peru with the aim of walking the Inca trail. This was the Regiments big overseas AT trip for the year where Soldiers saw some magni cent sights whilst honing their navigation skills and developing team work.
2 and 3 Squadron. In addition to the Peru trip the RAPTCIs and Permanent Staff (PS) engaged heavily in providing Type 2 AT activities throughout the spring and summer. Trips to Capel Curing and RAF St Mawgan in Cornwall proved to be a hit with the Phase 2 Trainees and PS. Training allowed many soldiers to follow on from what they had experienced in basic training in
Sennybridge, South Wales and contributed to their continued personal development. The short visits provided the opportunity to participate in mountain biking and rock climbing for Trainees unable to travel home at weekends.
4 Squadron. Keen to test the autumn weather of Snowdonia and armed with his carbon bre road bike, WO2 (QMSI) Cowley set off with 4 (Mil Trg) Squadron to Capel Curig. Charged with the responsibility of conducting kayaking, the QMSI tested his novice group in the safety of Llyn Padarn. The remainder of the Sqn participated in mountain biking or mountaineering.
PCRF Blandford
The PCRF saw the arrival of SSgt (SSI) Coney and Sgt (SI) Potter in July 2015. A testing transition as they were taking over from two locums and a gapped OC. Blandford PCRF is a very busy department, which caters for a myriad of personnel, from phase two soldiers to high-ranking of cers. Due to the recent lack of military staff in the department there was a need to insert some military ethos amongst the patients.
The rejuvenated PCRF has provided the RAPTCIs with a number of challenges, rebuilding the service within the department and to re-introduce a number of class therapy sessions available to patients. Where possible they have helped to assist the stand-in OC who is the senior civilian physiotherapist within the department. They have also provided support to the P&RTC staff with their monthly CO’s PT sessions by taking control of the Trainees and Permanent Staff undergoing rehabilitation training.
After the madness of the rst few months Sgt (SI) Potter managed to escape on a two-week cruise across the Atlantic to the Caribbean while SSgt Coney held the fort. With opportunities a plenty in Blandford there is plenty of scope for AT throughout the year and both are hoping to Ski in February 16. After completing 22 years’ service, SSgt Coney is preparing for his future life plan, resettlement and transition into civilian life; but not before he gives his nal work order - Sgt Potter, stand by go!
As I approach the 18 month point of my assignment at 14 Regiment Royal Artillery (14 Regt RA), I look back at what I have experienced during my short tenure. With a high turnover of personnel within the unit, I have worked for two Commanding Of cers, supported three Regimental Sergeant
WO2 (QMSI) C Paton RAPTC
Majors and developed four RAPTC Sergeants who have been assigned to the Regiment prior to attending their ERI Course. However, with the arrival of the Army’s Strength and Conditioning Coach SSgt Bradley and newly badged Sgt Wilcox the operational workload and effectiveness of the gymnasium has
increased and there is a real buzz around the gymnasium.
14 Regt RA is located on the perimeter of the Salisbury Plain Training Area (SPTA) and a stone’s throw away from Stonehenge. Although the Regiment falls under the jurisdiction and governance of ARTD,
