IAM Overview
3. IAM Overview
Now that a database is opened, you will see the standard IAM display window; although
there won’t be much to see with a newly created database. The basic IAM view is split into
3 main parts, which all interact with each other.
Figure 3-1 General IAM Appearance
3.1. Ribbon
The ribbon contains all the functions that can be executed, such as adding plants and
assets, configuring monitors or viewing data; press the button to run the function. The
contents of the ribbon will change depending on the item selected in the database tree.
Ribbon functions are also available through context menus; right-clicking the mouse on
an item in the database tree will show the same functions as the ribbon does when that item
is selected.
3.2. Database Tree
The database tree shows the structure of the database; this structure can be as simple
or as complicated as desired, but needs to be created by adding organizations, plants and
assets (refer to Section 4 for details). Each item in the tree represents a small piece of the
database, such as a plant, asset, monitoring technology or monitor. Selecting a ‘node’ in
the database tree will set the ribbon controls to include functions relevant to that node and
will also display information about that node in the Information Panel.
