Introduction

                                    NOTE:
A GuardII+ Flux card is a component of larger system, and requires a
GuardII+ Series 4208 Platform to function. GuardII+ Flux cards are not
compatible with original GuardII monitors and original GuardII Flux cards
are not compatible with GuardII+ monitors.

                                    NOTE:
A GuardII+ monitor can only support one Flux card that monitors a single
machine, although that card may include other monitoring technologies.

              1. Introduction

              1.1. Application

The GuardII+ Flux card is an optional add-on for the GuardII+ continuous on-line monitor
that is used to detect shorted turns in the rotor windings of rotating machines.
A GuardII+ Flux card can be used on either salient pole machines such as hydro
generators, motor-generators in reversible pump-turbines and salient pole synchronous
motors, or round rotor machines such as turbo generators and synchronous condensers.
The GuardII+ Flux card is compatible with Iris Power LP Total Flux Probes (TFProbe),
Foldable Flux Probes (FFProbe), and other Iris Power LP approved flux probes mounted on
stator wedges. The data collected is compatible with data collected from an Iris Power RFAII
portable instrument and uses analyzing software built into the IAM software suite. A
synchronization signal is used for pole identification; a shaft rotation signal is preferred,
although synchronizing from the monitors’ ac power or another ac source is possible.
A GuardII+ monitor with a Flux card will automatically run Flux measurements, storing
results and providing notification when a shorted turn is detected. The data can be manually
downloaded or can be automatically transmitted using the Modbus over TCP/IP protocol.

The GuardII+ monitor is mounted outside of the generator near the sensor Termination
Box. Twisted-pair cables provide connections between the Termination Box and the GuardII+.

                                    NOTE:
A Flux card may also contain additional connections for monitoring
endwinding vibration and/or shaft voltage and current monitoring.
