Many of those who have gone before us, shed their own
blood and voluntarily gave up their lives for our freedoms.
In the gospel of St, Mark, we read of a blind man
who Jesus laid hands on to restore his sight. This man
was previously sighted, but for some reason unknown,
he lost his sight. We know this, because the Bible says his
sight was restored.
When He first laid hands on the blind man, Jesus
asked him, “How do you see?” The man replied, “I can
see now, but I don’t see men as real men. I see men as
trees walking.”
“And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him
out of the town… and (Jesus) put his hands upon him,
he asked him if he saw ought (clearly). And he looked
up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.”
Mark 8:23-24 (KJV)
Unfortunately, we live in a world where all men and
women are not regarded as humans… real humans with
equal rights and privileges. As with so many in the world
today, the blind man saw men and women, but not as
real human beings.
Nelson Mandela once said...“No one is born hating
another person because of the color of his skin, or his
background, or his religion. People must learn to hate,
and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love.”
A lot of misguided people in our society who have
been taught to hate, see people as things, objects and
sub-humans. African-Americans who set out to trace
their ancestry, quickly discover that they can only go so
far back through birth records.
At a certain point, to fully accomplish their goal
they must switch from birth records to livestock deeds.
Black men, women children weren’t seen as humans, but
livestock; animals… or trees walking.
