POLICY - GUIDELINES NO. 19 - 2012
Increased Dormitory Fee of the Ifugao State University in the amount of
Php 350/month for the Incoming Dorm Occupants
Effective S.Y. 2012-2013
I. Rationale
With the increasing population of students in the university, housing units are no longer enough to
accommodate students who would like to stay while studying in the institution. Based on survey
conducted, almost one half of the total population of students are commuters with no boarding houses.
They may either come from the nearby barangays of the municipality or those students commuting
from other municipalities.
Furthermore, boarding house fee outside the university based on community survey is also
increasing ranging from Php500 to Php600 per month for bed spacers while IFSU is charging only
Php250 per month per person. As a result, the administration conducted consultations to increase the
rent of dormitories per person in the amount of Php35O per month. Said consultations yielded positive
feedbacks among occupants and parents knowing that the income obtained from the increase in rental
would be used to provide good and decent housing for the students.
Since the university operates with meager funds, improved facilities of dormitories can only be
possible with the resort of increasing the existing dormitory fee. It can also help to solve financial
constraints in the operation of the dormitories especially with increasing electric bills for light and
water. In addition, the immediate surroundings of the dormitories also need immediate fencing to
protect the occupants from gate crushers. The increasing number of students needs additional double
deck beds. With the present condition of dormitories, there is also an immediate need to construct CRs
as the main problem in the buildings while occupants who cannot afford to buy LPG tank would also
be given the alternative to use fire woods which is very much abundant in the surroundings.
Thus, with the profound desire to intensify student's housing services of the University, there is an
urgent need to increase dormitory fee of Php350/month to address the aforementioned quandaries and
the payment of the following fees for use of various dormitory equipment and services:
Cell Phone battery charging Php 10.00/month
Flat iron Php 50.00/month
Electric Fan Php 40.00/month
Washing Machine Php 50.00/month
Electric Stove Php 100.00/month
II. Objectives:
Generally, the proposal aims to improve the quality of housing services of the university
through improved facilities.
