FAFICS also welcomed two new associations: Côte d'Ivoire and the retired members of
the International Postal Union, based in Berne. The Council also approved the creation
of a standing committee to help associations with a shortage of members and to
facilitate the creation of new associations.
Another standing committee for
communications was set up on
the basis of the working group
requested by the Council two
years ago. During the course
of this year, this group
produced a leaflet, which is
available on the federation's
website, as well as a refresh of
the current website. The new
site will go live shortly. FAAFI's
working language is English,
but its members translate the
federation's main messages

The advantage of FAFICS and its Councils, apart from defending the interests of
retirees from the United Nations system, is the expression of international solidarity.
These Council meetings enable the associations to exchange views, particularly on the
specific difficulties encountered by retirees in their own countries. For example, the
Myanmar delegation described daily living conditions and difficult access to healthcare
and medicines. Face-to-face meetings enable this type of exchange of information.
The next Council meeting will be an opportunity to celebrate the federation's 50th
anniversary. It will be an opportunity to take stock of what we have achieved over the
years and to set objectives for the next decade.
