The Need

The building that houses Maternity The combination of the old building, full
department D, one of our five, was built in rooming-in, and the large number of
1995 and not originally designed to allow full patients in the rooms and sometimes
rooming-in, which requires a place for the even overflow into the corridors results in
baby’s crib by the mother’s side. extremely crowded conditions that are
The department’s turnover is high, and difficult for new mothers, their babies, and
approximately 3,500 mothers and 3,500 the medical and nursing teams.

babies are hospitalized there every year.

        The Project

This project will meet the need to improve conditions for mothers and infants, bridge
the gaps in hospitalization conditions between the Negev and the center of the country,
upgrade the building’s infrastructure, and make it possible for us to provide spacious hospital
        rooms that ensure mothers’ privacy.

The project is expected to affect all the women who live in the Negev and come to give
birth at Soroka, in particular the approximately 3,500 mothers who are hospitalized in
the department each year and the approximately 73,000 visitors from their nuclear and
extended families. Since the reconstruction of the department is intended to provide a
long-term response to maternity needs, hundreds of thousands of people will benefit from
it over the next several years.

The reconstructed department will cover approximately 950 square meters.
