A very interesting blog post, thank you. I actually have some personal experience
with this subject. I (1) have known / knew my friend Carlos Mendoza (2) since / for 2005.
He (3) left / has left his hometown in Mexico when he was 18. Like many other young
Mexicans, he (4) crossed / has been crossing the Rio Grande and came to the United
States because he wanted to find work. Carlos (5) settled / has been settling in Arizona
in 2004, where he started his own cleaning service. His business was very successful, but
Carlos (6) didn’t clean / hasn’t been cleaning houses for a year now. While he was in the
United States, he (7) saved / has saved his money. Now, he (8) has gone / has been going
back to Mexico to open his own store. Carlos (9) sent / has been sending me e-mails
regularly (10) for / since several months. I wish him all the best!
