Write about Changes
2 BEFORE YOU WRITE.
A Think of an event you have recently experienced. When did the event happen? What
changes have happened because of the event? Complete the chart with information about
the experience. Use the chart from exercise 1C as a model.

B Look at the changes in your chart from exercise A. Number each change in your chart 1, 2,
3, etc., to help you plan the order of this information in your writing.
3 WRITE three paragraphs about the changes you have experienced recently. Use the
information in the chart in exercise 2A and the text in exercise 1A to help you.
WRITING FOCUS Using Commas between Items in a Series
Use a comma between words or phrases in a series. A series is three or more
related words, phrases, or clauses. Use a comma after all items in a series except
the last one.
Many birds, butterflies, and small animals have disappeared for the night.
4 SELF ASSESS. Read your text. Underline the present perfect verbs and circle the present
perfect progressive verbs. Then use the checklist to assess your work.
