                                                                                                                          THE EAST FERNERY
                                                                                                                          `Fernery about 32ft long, arranged with
                                                                                                                          ornamental rockwork’. [1902, Sales

                                                                                                                          This occupies an exactly similar
                                                                                                                          position as the west fernery, out of
                                                                                                                          direct sunlight and in the shadow of

                                                                                                                          This chamber is entered down steps
                                                                                                                          adjacent to the wall of the east fernery.
                                                                                                                          Its floor is 2.15m [7ft] below the ground
                                                                                                                          level above. The steps are surrounded
                                                                                                                          by ornamental railings with a fleur de
                                                                                                                          lys rnotiv. The chamber measures
                                                                                                                          5.65m [18ft 6 in] long by 3.20m [10ft 6in]
                                                                                                                          broad. Its ceiling has 2 different
                                                                                                                          construction techniques. The south
                                                                                                                          part which is underneath the fernery is
                                                                                                                          vaulted while the remaining part below

                                                                                                                          The east wall which it shares with the
                                                                                                                          boiler house on the other side and

                                                                                                                          goes through the wall into the Boiler
                                                                                                                          House. Some other hot water pipes are
                                                                                                                          observable. Two 4 inch pipes at the
                                                                                                                          north east corner go towards the floor
                                                                                                                          of the east lean-to vinery. There are
                                                                                                                          other pipes going in other directions.
