individuals involved in such cases. Mike McCarty explained that information on disciplinary dispositions
is shared with members as a part of annual business meeting reports. He states that we can limit the
amount of information that is published.
Vanessa Austin, RMA (OH) expressed that she had an issue with an RMA who was denied employment.
She reports that Nancy Pudelek, AMT staff, has been very helpful in getting AMT certifications
recognized by employers.
Zeny Maraggun, MT (LA) questions what we are going to do since the military has moved to ASCP. Jeff
Lavender explained that the military uses ASCP exams because they are recognized in all 50 states. AMT
is working on getting its exams recognized in NY (MT & MLT) and CA (MLT), which are the only two
states that don’t accept some of our exams for licensure.
Paul Brown, MT (AL) would like to see AMT promote its military route for RMA certification. He
encouraged states to promote military involvement in meetings – inviting them as speakers or guests.
Paul also encouraged states to promote recognition weeks. Study manuals written by Pat Cuviello were
donated to AMT by Rhonda Rice-Johnson. Paul Brown gave the manuals to the AMT home office.
Anna Catron, MT (VA) related that a friend from a Virginia community college reported that some
people register with ARMA and use the credential R.M.A. and wants to know how we are addressing
this. Mike McCarty explained that ARMA’s R.M.A. credential has long been a thorn in AMT’s side, and
that their standards are much lower than the RMA(AMT)’s, but we cannot prohibit ARMA from using
their designation. We encourage our members to use “(AMT)” after their credentials so that it is clear
who they are credentialed by.
Elaine Jordan-Bernstein, MLT (FL) questioned if a person graduates with a BS in chemistry, microbiology
(60 science credits) can they sit for the MT exam. Jeff Lavender explained there is a route for this
however, they would need one year of field experience.
Nilam Patel, MT (MN) explained she took our exam through this route (B.S. in microbiology) and has
been very successful in obtaining recognition of her MT(AMT) certification.
Timothy Axe, RMA (IN) gave praise to instructors, especially Debbie Pitts. He loves what AMT stands for.
Amber Tibbetts (WY) Questions if AMT would consider EMS certification. Currently the National Registry
is the primary option. Mike McCarty advised that we have to ensure that there is an appropriate need.
Development of new programs is very costly.
Dustin Martinez, MT (AZ) encouraged specialty certification in blood banking.
Sol Goldenberg, RMA (FL) states that he & Deb Janeczko, RMA (FL) have been visiting Keiser University
presenting a slide presentation to the students on AMT. He questions if staff can help with additional
materials to take with them, etc. Jeannie Hobson reports that there are resources available and
encourages Sol to reach out to the AMT staff.
Martia Howard, RMA (NJ) sends a big “Thank you” to AMT staff. Reports she has been working as an
ambassador to schools to educate students about AMT. She has been working with Kathy Cilia and
Sheryl Junius.
