His father didn't agree to lend him money but he pressed and the place
was bought.
His wife cooked delicacies but the first years were difficult. There was
no livelihood; people didn't buy the tasty food that Rivka made.
The main reason was the fish market with the terrible smell. The
market was located in Shikma street right across Rahmo. Only after
the market moved to Givaat Shaul the shoppers started to smell the
wonderful smell of Rahmo's delicacies and they flooded the small
shop.
Rahmo was known all over Jerusalem as a hidden Tsadik who gives
food to the poor. Also in his shop when people didn't pay and said" I'll
pay tomorrow" he didn't pressurize them to pay. And when he saw
them repeating the same sentence day after day he understood that
they most probably don't really have the money to pay and gave up the
payment.
Rahmo worked until his last days and when he passed away all [the
people] of Jerusalem came to his funeral
His daughter Haya Gil continued to operate the restaurant after his
death, and when she passed away two years ago it was discovered that
the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and she also gave food portions
to the poor.
At the time of the terrorist attacks she made sure that they will bring
food to the poor people's houses.
Today the restaurant is managed by Itzik Gil, Rahmo's son In Law.
