Murals
On number 70 Agripas Street [there is] a painting of the Mahane
Yehuda Market from a special point of view – almost legendary, with
a scenery that bursts out into the distance. In the painting you can
recognize some of the market’s merchants, and it looks so real, that at
its dedication one of the participants commented: “it is a wonderful
painting, but why didn’t they clear away (get rid of) the cardboard box
that’s on the little roof”. The box, of course, is part of the painting.
In the market’s parking lot, in what was the Alliance School’s
courtyard, you can view another mural. On the nearby Dwek House
there is a painting of the School of Torah and Craft, established by the
French Kol Yisrael Chaverim organization and built in 1882.
The Clal building is situated in this place today. This building, like
many others in the city, was ruined and its memory is kept by the
painting which looks like an old and nostalgic yearbook photo.
