Gutman's Mosaic – The Story of Tel-Aviv
Nachum Gutman is one of the most famous painters in Israel. In his
paintings, we can see the life in the new Tel-Aviv. Thanks to his
popularity and the popularity of his paintings, he was requested to
document the history of the city through his paintings.
Gutman decided to document the history of the city in a different and
original way, compared to his usual works of art – he decided to present
the history of the city via mosaic with four parts. The mosaic is a very
big piece, in a size of a wall.
Four scenes that tell the story of the city are described in the mosaic.
Each scene tells a different story and is characterized in a different
color. The first part tells the story of the old city of Jaffa, which
preceded Tel-Aviv. This part is characterized in green, and the old port
of Jaffa, as well as the images of the Arab residents are described in it –
all on the background of very green vegetation. At that period, the Jews

The second part tells the story of the construction. In this part, we can
see a lot of yellow. We see the beginning of the construction of "Ahuzat
Bait", the yellow sands and the few houses. We can see the water tower
