Chava Albershtein
Chava Albershtein (born December 8th 1947) is an influential and important
Israeli singer, with a longstanding career of over 40 years. Albershtein sings
in Hebrew, Yiddish and English. She sings folk songs, children’s songs,
personal songs, social and political protest songs.
In her childhood Albershtein began singing and playing guitar and took on
voice exercises. In the sixties and seventies Albershtein sang Israeli songs.
She sang songs by important and well known poets such as Sasha Argov,
Moshe Vilensky, Tirtsa Atar, Neomi Shemer, Nurit Hirsh, Ehud Manor,
Matti Caspi and others. Generations of lovers of Hebrew singing grew up on
Chava’s albums. Chava sings with great feeling, and lately began to write and
compose her songs, but even when she performs with them, the crowd
continues to demand the old classics.
