Yehuda Poliker
Yehuda Poliker (born December 25th 1950) is a popular Israeli singer,
musician and creator, who creates in a variety of styles and deals with matters
which concern the Israeli society.
Poliker became famous as the soloist and leader of the rock band “Benzin” in
the eighties. After the band fell apart he turned to a solo career, and created
music which combines rock, pop and Greek folk music. Besides singing,
Poliker also plays on a great number of instruments, composes his own songs
as well as others’, writes songs, and even draws.
Poliker was born in Qiryat Haim to parents who were holocaust survivors,
descendants of the city Thessaloniki in Greece, and because of this created a
great number of songs in Greek style. Poliker sings about Israeli social
matters, like the memory of the holocaust, violence in the city, bereavement
and more, from a personal perspective. In recent years Poliker hasn’t been
interviewing a lot to the press, but he maintains his social involvement
through his work, like performing in the memorial rallies for Yitzhak Rabin’s
memory, and performing in the rally for Gil’ad Shalit’s release.
Yehuda Poliker’s songs that appear in this book: ‘Friday, You Know’, ‘A
New Beginning’.
