and song writer. He also reads his songs in shows and albums alongside

Geffen was born, raised and educated in Nahalal, a descendant of the

he moved to Tel Aviv and published several songs at the advice of a poet he
admired, Natan Alterman. In 1970 he went to London for school. When he
returned to Israel in 1972 he resided in Tel Aviv and began writing for
“Ma’ariv” newspaper, in which he still writes. His most well known and
successful children’s song book is “The Sixteenth Lamb”. The songs in this
book were composed in 1978 by Yoni Rechter to an album by the same name
and this is one of the most sold Israeli albums in the history of Israeli singing.
The book, which was written for children with a wink for adults, is
accompanied by a CD of a performance by the best of Israel’s singers,
including Yehudit Ravitz and Gidi Gov.
Geffen has written hundreds of well known poems and songs for adults and
children. He also wrote a number of successful fiction books and plays. He
lived for a few years in London and New York. Geffen’s children, Shira and
Aviv Geffen, are important and well-known creators in their own right.
