Yizhar Ashdot
Yizhar Ashdot (born November 23rd 1958) is an Israeli singer, composer and
musician. His first fame came as a member of the “Tislam” band, and
afterwards he developed a successful solo career, alongside working as an
active adapter and musical producer.
Ashdot was born in Jerusalem and was raised there. At age 11 Ashdot started
dealing with music, when he started learning to play guitar. Ashdot is a left-
handed player and he – unlike other guitarists, who change the order of the
strings on the guitar so that they can play with the left hand the traditional
role of the right hand – only turned the guitar around (and until today plays
left-handed electric guitar – with the strings ordered like an inverted right-
handed guitar). It was hard for him at first to find a guitar teacher who would
agree to teach him “to play upside down”.
