                              Kaveret

Kaveret (lit. beehive) is an ensemble of ex-army bands’ singers that was
established in 1973. Its style was characterized with melodic rock enriched
with nonsense humor, and in its concerts it continued the tradition of the
IDF’s bands, when it combined songs and sketches. Danny Sanderson, Gidi
Gov, Efraim Shamir, Alon Ole’archik and Meir Fenigshtein met while
serving together in the ‘Nachal’ army band. After a while they added Yitzhak
Klepter to their group, and Yoni Rechter was last to join. Kaveret is sort of
“Beatles” of Israel.

In 1973, several months before the Yom Kippur War, the members of
“Kaveret” put on their first show, “Poogy’s Tales”. In 1974 the band
represented Israel in the Eurovision with the song “I Gave Her my Life”. In
1976 the band members decided to try out their luck in the US. At the end of
the tour they decided to part, and each of them set out on a personal career. In
1984, under the audience’s pressure, the members of “Kaveret” reunited for a
string of concerts, most famous of which was the free concert in the Yarkon
Park. In 1998, in honor of Israel’s 50th anniversary and the 25th of the album
“Poogy’s tales”, the band united again for a one-time huge concert in the
Yarkon Park. “Kaveret” band was selected to be “The Sixtieth Band” at
Israel’s Sixtieth anniversary, under channel one and “Gimmel” network’s
“Song of the Sixty” program. In 2009 the show “This is How She is in the
Middle” was put on, in which various current artists sang the band’s songs.

Kaveret’s songs that appear in this book: ‘The Grocery Store Song’,
‘Barukh’s Boots’.
