The Aqueduct That Passes Through Armon HaNatziv

Jerusalem in the Temple Period needed a lot of water:
   - The priests that entered the Temple needed to be pure and to immerse in
       water each time.
   - Those who went up during the Festivals that wanted to enter the Temple
Mount needed to immerse in water from a natural source.
   - Those who went up during the Festivals also needed drinking water.
   - They cleaned the Temple frequently from the blood of the offerings.
   - The people who lived in Jerusalem needed water for drinking, for
       washing and for laundry.
   - In the palaces of the Hasmoneans and in the water fountains they used a
       lot of water.

Until the end of the Second Temple Period, the water would come from the
springs situated close to the Temple. But in the days of the Hasmoneans and in
the days of Herod, this water did not suffice for the needs of the palaces, the
fountains and the number of people that had grown, and therefore two aqueducts
were built that transported water to the city from far-off, high springs.
In Armon HaNatziv we see remnants of the lower aqueduct that caused water
to flow to the area of the Temple. The aqueduct was built with amazing
engineering sophistication, and functioned for more than two thousand years!
