Herod

The Romans appoint Herod as king in Israel.
The Jews very much do not like Herod: he is a very big dictator. He is also
paranoid, and he thinks that all the Jews want to kill him. Therefore, he kills
many Jews, Jewish sages and also his Jewish wife and his children.
But Herod also does an important thing in Jerusalem: he renovates the Temple.
And why does Herod, the paranoid dictator king, renovate the Temple?
Maybe because Herod knows that the Temple is very important to the Jews: he
thinks that if the Jews are happy to see the new and beautiful Temple, they also
like the king that renovates the Temple.
Even after Herod renovates the Temple, the Jews do not like him, but the Jewish
sages say: whoever does not see the Temple that Herod renovates – does not
know what a beautiful house is!
