The Arabs who Enlist

Bedouins and Circassians (have been) serving in recon battalion five eight five for thirty years. But
in recent years more and more Christian-Arabs and Muslim-Arabs, who decide to enlist to the IDF,
are coming to the battalion. The percent of enlisters in the Arab society is very low – one percent –
but in the past three years there are a lot more Arab-Israeli enlisters. Not everyone likes it, many
Palestinians as well as Arab-Israelis call (someone) who serves in the IDF a traitor. But the Arab
enlisters want to integrate better in the Israeli society, take care of their financial future, as well as
contribute to the country.
