A Hotel by the Sea
If you’ve always dreamed of sleeping on the water(line) in the closest location to the sea, but in a
luxurious boutique hotel, within a month this lifeguard post on Frishman beach in Tel Aviv will
look like this. “The idea is a pop-up hotel, the coolest, most Tel-Avivian, as creative as it gets,
which will be built for a week or ten days. It’s a real hotel, with all the hotel amenities.” But don’t
run off to book the room, it’s destined for just two tourist couples. It’s a project to promote tourism
in Tel Aviv in winter, in cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism and the Tel Aviv
municipality. In order to win the international competition, tourists will have to send an Instagram
picture from where they live, somewhere in frozen Europe, wearing just the swim suite with which
they’ll come to the beach in Tel Aviv. The two winning couples will be flown to Israel next month
for a four-night vacation, of which they’ll spend two days at the luxurious suite. But there’s just one
problem: in the post that would become a boutique hotel room, there will be no room left for a
lifeguard. The winning tourists will take comfort in (the fact) that they’ll get to be guests in the first
lifeguard post in the world that became a boutique hotel.
