                                            Adrenergic transmission

                                  Adrenergic or sympathomimetic drugs


            drugs which imitate or produce the same effects as the stimulation of the sympathetic
                                                   nervous system.
                                    Classification of Sympathomimetic:

                                  1.  Direct acting sympathomimetics → norepinephrine,

                                      epinephrine, isoproterenol, and dopamine
            According to          2.  Indirect acting sympathomimetics → Act by causing release

                                  3.  Dual effect: → By both direct and indirect effect

                                       ephedrine

              Classified         1)  Catecholamines → contains the catechol nucleus 
                                    epinephrine, norepinephrine and isoproterenol.

                                 2)  Non-catecholamines → amphetamine, ephedrine and tyramine

            According to         1.  Natural → norepinephrine, epinephrine and dopamine
                                 2.  Synthetic → isoproterenol, amphetamine, tyramine and
