BACKGROUND:

I am a general dentist with over 2 decades in the profession and a keen interest in prevention and management of
sports related dental trauma.
I wanted to address the ongoing trend that dentist-made, optimum protection, custom fitted sports mouthguards
were becoming prohibitively more expensive to purchase and difficult for players to get dental appointments for.

As a result, more and more players were buying the cheaper, less protective option – the sports shop, boil and bite
style gumshield. It’s also not a coincidence that dentists are seeing increasing numbers of patients attending with
sporting related tooth traumas – and on questioning, they either received the injury WHILST wearing a cheap, self-fit
mouthguard – or WEREN’T wearing a mouthguard at all due to not being able to physically manage to keep these
shop bought ones in place without discomfort.

G2G was set up to provide a cost-effective and convenient way for players to get equipped with the custom fitted
mouthguard. By moving out of the high overhead dental practice environment to see players directly (via visiting
clubs/schools/public venues) and by manufacturing the mouthguards ourselves in our own specialist thermoforming
lab, we were able to vastly reduce the two major overheads. As a result, we are able to deliver the custom fitted
sports mouthguard to players at up to 70% less than attending a dental practice, and many more players are
choosing better protection as a result.

Since inception, we have built up annual repeat business with multiple sports clubs and schools mainly in the North
of Ireland, and we are now emerging into the Republic of Ireland market. We are well established as a business and
brand amongst hockey and rugby clubs throughout Ulster, as well as BJJ, Martial Arts, Boxing Clubs and
Kickboxing/MMA gyms. We are proud to work with a number of elite athletes in boxing – such as emerging
professional boxer James McGivern and Commonwealth bronze medallist boxer Carly McNaul.

In 2019 we started working with clubs in the GAA market within Ulster and demand for our services is growing. With
the GAA season mirroring that of the Hockey/Rugby season, it keeps demand for our services high. In addition, the
various martial arts and boxing calendars run continuously, and with the numerous summer and Easter camps run by
all sports – gumshields are in demand all year round.

Just prior to COVID-19, we had multiple bookings for pop-up fitting clinics with existing and new GAA clubs – all
contacting us through word of mouth. As we specialise in club/school colours and crests/badges, this market in
particular is very strong for us.

We have pioneered the concept of the MOBILE POP-UP FITTING CLINIC – and we have a number of sub-contracted
dental nurses who are trained to operate our clinics that we can deploy. We intend to add to this ‘bank’ of nurses to
enable us to cover numerous counties and locations. Prior to COVID-19, we had two dental nurses trained and ready
to operate clinics; unfortunately, we have been unable to action this yet.

The arrival of COVID-19 and the subsequent restrictions in place in dentistry mean that currently we aren’t able to
resume close multiple player/clinician contact that we would have been able to previously at our clinics. To continue
offering our services to our customers, we have devised a DIY home impression kit, whereby the player moulds
themselves following easy instructions and step by step video guide. We are also able to offer additional live video
support should the player request. This home kit has just been launched on our website this week and we are
marketing to the whole of the UK and Ireland via our website, eBay and social media.
