FACTS & STATISTICS
• Globally, it is estimated that there are around 5 million teeth completely knocked out per year.
• Evidence suggests DENTAL TRAUMA of all types RUNS IN THE POPULATION AT 5%
UK & Ire combined population = 68 million
Therefore, there are approx. 3.4 million dental injuries per year in UK & Ireland population
NOT ALL tooth injures are severe enough to require management via kit:
A low estimate would be to assume 5%.
Therefore, 170,000 severe dental injuries per year in UK & Ireland population.
Assume only 5% of those injuries occur at a venue with a kit:
This would be 8500 injuries requiring kit usage**
Each injury involves 2-3 (minimum) scenario pouches at £5-£10 per pouch:
Therefore,0020 if we assume approx. £20 to refill:
8500 x £20 = £170,000 annual refill revenue from only the 6108 units.
**To check these figures: 8500 injuries serviced by 6108 kits gives an annual frequency of dental injury of 1.4 per
year per kit. This, in my professional opinion, correlates to at least the frequency of dental injury a school/club would
experience in a contact sport environment where giving the nature of sport being played would make it more likely
to experience a trauma than in the general setting.
MARKETING TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC
In addition to the sports setting, dental trauma is also very likely to occur in the home setting.
Scooters, trampolines, bikes, swings, slides are all common culprits, both at home and away in caravan sites, play
parks etc.
I feel that at the correct price point, this kit should be considered a household essential to sit alongside a home first
aid kit. Therefore, with the correct marketing, it could retail in supermarkets/pharmacies on sale to the general
public.
There are 27.8 million households in the UK & Ireland.
There are 221.3 million households in the EU
MARKETING THROUGH SPORTS/LEISURE WHOLESALE CATALOGUES in the first aid section. From my research, there
is no dental trauma kit available for purchase.
COST OF PRODUCTION OF THE DENTAL TRAUMA EMERGENCY KIT
• Buying the components in small numbers from eBay/Amazon retailers, and sourcing the zipped bag in a
small volume, I have been able to create the kit for approx. £13-£14.
• I have no doubt that this kit could be compiled for significantly less than £10/unit
• The shelf life of the majority of the products within the kit is 2-3 years
