Message From The President
Of Maliyadeva College Old Boys Association

                                          Chandana Guruge

                                          The President
                                          Maliyadeva College Old Boys Association.

It is indeed a privilege as President of Maliyadeva Old Boys Association to write this message
to Colonel Henry Steel Olcott Memorial Foundation’s CHSOMF Silver Jubilee celebration.

The CHSOMF was founded in 1996 and its the first president was Mr. Bandula Warnapura who
is an old Nalandian that created the arena for the foundation. Having become the first Test
captain in the Sri Lankan Cricket , manyold boys from Olcott schools helped to initiate the
CHSOMF. Mr. Asoka Pathirane contributed by being in a founder member of the foundation
         representing Maliyadeva College.

Ever since Maliyadeva College won the inaugural tournament held in 1999 and subsequently
a cricket tournament was introduced in year1996 between Olcott school’s present boy in the
Six- aSide which too was won by Maliyadeva College. This tournament continued every year
until 2019 due to the pandemic situation and the foundation lost its momentum to continue
the tournament from 2020 onwards. As a past cricketer, I have participated all in these
         tournaments since 1998 till 2019.

The CHSOMF committee has made a tremendous effort to make the tournament a success
every year which uplifts the standards of cricket among schools' players and maintains the
         harmony among our schools.

Moreover, the foundation has supported extra-curricular activities/sports in the likes of
leadership programs, quizzes, relay carnivals, Table Tennis and badminton.
Finally, I hope that the present president, mr.Gamini Swarnapala and the committee will
continue these events which supports the Olcott Schools to promote sports and education.
