The first time ION Indie Magazine had the pleasure of meeting the band Joyous Wolf was a year ago at
Wally’s in Hampton Beach, NH when they opened for Fozzy. During their last set, the lead singer, Nick Reese,
fell, resulting in a gushing, bloody nose. Bummer. Thus, ION was excited to see they were back at Wally’s on
th
March 30 opening for Buckcherry. I’m happy to report that Nick’s nose fully recovered, although this time,
he and fellow bandmates were battling the flu. Reese and guitarist Blake Allard rallied for an awesome
interview and energetic show.
The fans at the sold-out show would never have guessed the band was under the weather. Joyous Wolf’s
unique rock-sound, that at times channels Soundgarden and Nirvana, had the crowd dancing along. Reese
crooned into the microphone, “Picture me, picture me…live how you want to live, you want to live, I want
to live, in my place in time,” while feigning posing for a selfie on stage as the crowd threw their hands up.
Though it’s my second time seeing them live, I am still blown away by the vocal stylings emit from Nick
Reese.
Though the band name, Joyous Wolf, resulted in a search from a band name generator, it has certainly
caught on -- given ION spied more than one fan sporting Joyous Wolf tattoos. The band is gaining even more
attention now that guitarist Blake Allard and his dad, Chris, have been featured in a Verizon Wireless
commercial which premiered in March of 2019.
