CKY, abbreviated for the band’s original name, Camp
Kill Yourself, is a rock band from West Chester,
Pennsylvania, that was formed in 1998 by lead
vocalist Deron Miller, guitarist and backing vocalist
Chad I Ginsburg, and drummer Jess Margera. CKY
gained popularity through their musical contributions
to the CKY video series and the TV series Jackass, both
featuring Jess Margera’s brother, Bam.
The band released its first album entitled “Volume 1”
in 1999. They first signed with The Island Def Jam
Music Group in 2002, releasing “Infiltrate-Destroy-
Rebuild,” which entered the Billboard 200 at number
99. The following album, “An Answer Can Be Found,”
released in 2005, was successful; reaching a peak in
the top 40. After leaving Island/Def Jam Music Group,
CKY, signed with Roadrunner Records, releasing a
fourth album, “Carver City.”
In 2011, Deron Miller left the band. The remaining
members formed their current three-piece: Chad I
Ginsburg on guitar, synthesizer, and vocals, Jess
Margera playing drums, and Matt Deis on bass,
synthesizers, and backing vocals. The trio recorded
their first album, “The Phoenix,” which was released
in June 2017.
