Who dat? Who do that voodoo that you do? Ahhhh…’Nawlins. The Big Easy.
New Orleans is a vibrant yet dangerous city. Overindulgence is attained very
simply in the raucous streets of the French Quarter. Whether one is seeking
spicy food, plentiful drink, or various edgier activities, it all can be easily found.
The French architecture that lines the narrow streets is fascinating and a visual
throwback to a long past era. But, New Orleans is much more than Bourbon
Street and Mardi Gras. It is a city that is held together by tragedy, love, and a
legendary music scene. Known mostly for its Jazz, it also has a rocking blues
scene lurking in the shadows. Whatever your favorite music flavor, you can find
it.
Down New Orleans way, via ReverbNation, I discovered the self-proclaimed
“Loudest Singer-Songwriter in the Crescent City”. That seems ironic, doesn’t it?
A loud singer/songwriter? Is not any rocker who writes and sings their own song
a singer/songwriter? Yes, put that doubt to rest. Ladies and Gents meet ION
Indie Magazine’s newest ReverbNation Artist of the Month, Jamie Lynn
Vessels. Let me tell you…this lady rocks!
Jamie is not native to New Orleans. She is originally from Raleigh, NC. She
actually moved to NOLA after graduating with a master’s degree in Criminal
Justice. Jamie had trouble finding work, however, and naturally gravitated
towards her passion for music. After sending one of her songs to a music friend,
she decided to go for it and jumped into music production and recording her
original work.
Growing up, Jamie's Mom wanted her and her older brother to learn piano. This
idea was passed down to Jamie’s Mom from her mother, as Grandma was also
very gifted musically. So, at 4 years of age, Jamie learned to play the piano. At
10, she was encouraged to try and learn another instrument, and thankfully for
us rock lovers, she chose guitar. As a side note, she also tried to talk her Mother
into letting her play drums. In any case, Jamie’s love for music was gained due
to her family influence that developed into her passion, which really shows to
this day.
