(AUGUST 17, 1945)
On April 29, 1945, BPUPKI was formed with
Dr. Radjiman Wedyodiningrat as chairman.
BPUPKI held two sessions:
1) May 29-June 1, 1945 to discuss the basis of
the state, where Ir. Soekarno introduced the
idea of Pancasila.
2) July 10-17, 1945 to draft the body of the
1945 Constitution. On August 7, 1945, BPUPKI
was replaced by PPKI with Ir. Soekarno as
chairman.

After Japan surrendered on August 15, 1945,
the young group secured Soekarno-Hatta to

Rengasdengklok to formulate independence.
Ahmad Soebardjo then picked them up on the
INDEPENDENCE
INDEPENDENCE orders of Admiral Maeda. That night, a
meeting at Maeda's house produced the text
of the proclamation which was announced on
August 17, 1945 at 10 am.
