     Project Phase 1: Identification
Purpose
The identification phase of the project begins once a proposal has been approved and work has begun with stakeholders, initially the project sponsor. In this phase, the process of determining how the project should be executed will begin. Based on proposal content, this phase has two outcomes:
• Preparation of a detailed plan of the work required to achieve the project objectives
• Further scoping and clarification of the assumptions in the proposal, e.g. finances and resources required, project benefits
The major activity in this phase is the preparation of the project charter. The project manager, in consultation with key stakeholders, defines the project scope and outlines the intended approach to project governance, work execution, and resource management.
