Speaking of which, a knot that attaches a line to
                   something is called a hitch. You can use a hitch on a
                   post, pile, ring, rail, another rope, or even to the same
                   rope.

                       When a knot joins two ropes, then it’s properly
                   called a bend. This term is a little tricky because the
                   exact same form can be called a knot if it joins two
                   ends of the same piece of cord. In practice, the two
                   terms are used interchangeably.
