Constipation as a Sign of Serious Health Problems
Constipation coupled with abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting may indicate
appendicitis and using laxatives with appendicitis could cause the appendix to
rupture.
Rectal bleeding or sudden change in bowel habits that persists for 2 weeks or
more may indicate serious conditions
Colostomates or ileostomates should be referred to physician
Constipation in a patient following recent abdominal surgery may indicate lack
of peristalsis.
