            Practice Points

The key point is clearly vigilance to any changes in a patient's condition that
may point to an ADR or interaction.

Become familiar with clinically significant interactions.

Warfarin, lithium, theophylline and digoxin therapy should always alert
practitioners to be vigilant for ADRs or interactions.

The change to a patient's therapy that involves a drug known to influence
metabolism should prompt a review of all concurrent drugs, whether prescribed,
OTC or herbal remedies.

Additional Considerations

Consider the pharmacology of drugs when prescribing to allow for the
prediction of pharmacodynamic reactions. Avoid using drugs with similar
    pharmacology.
It is good practice to be familiar with common interactions as current computer
systems have been found to be lacking in the management of drug interactions.
Patients should always be questioned about their use of OTC and herbal
    medicines.
