Mitochondrial Structure

1) Outer membrane: Mitochondria have an outer
    membrane that is permeable to most
    metabolites.

2) Inner membrane: is selectively permeable. It
    contains the components of the respiratory
    chain [or electron transport chain (ETC)].

3) Matrix: is the space enclosed by the inner
    membrane and it contains the enzymes of the
    citric acid cycle and β- oxidation of fatty
    acids.
