3.Guar Gum
Guaran
It is a gum obtained by grinding endosperm of Cyamopsis tetragonolobus
Leguminoseae seed.
• In the form of whitish powder forms gel with water even in very low conc.
Constituents:
• Water sol. Galactomannan polysaccharide on hydrolysis yield galactose +
mannose.
• Protein, saponin.
Uses:
• Tablet binder, suspending agent.
• Managing blood glucose.
• Bulk laxative
• Decrease blood cholesterol level
• Promotes weight loss. causing a sense of fullness
Adverse reactions:
• Flatulence.
• Esophageal obstruction.
