Uses:
    • Sweetening agent, demulcent for cough.
    • Topical treatment of sores and wounds.
    • For treatment of gastric ulcer due to Helicobacter pylori.
    • Due to its antibacterial activity, honey ingestion inhibits the growth of bacteria
         that cause dental caries. It also was shown to have an anti-plaque effect and
         thus can be used in the place of refined sugar in the manufacture of candy.

Chemical tests:
    • Refractive index
         Minimum 1.487 (equivalent to a maximum water content of 20 per cent).
    • Test for Adultration:

It gives red color with resorcinol in HCl if adulterated with artificial invert sugar that
contains furfural.

Contra-indications:
    • It is best not to be given to infants under-age of 12 months of fear of
         contamination with Clostridium botulinum that can cause botulism.

                           Royal gelly

A milky fluid produced by worker bee, used as essential nourishment for growth and
development of queen bee.

Constituents:
    • Proteins which contain the 8 essential amino acids
         and other acids.
    • Sugar, lipids and vitamins B,C,D and E in low
         traces.
    • Pantothenic acid, nicotinic acid and inositol.
    • 10-Hydroxy decanoic acid
    • Potent antibacterial protein royalisin.

Uses:
    • An expensive dietary supplement recommended for counteracting the effect of
         aging.
    • Lowering of cholesterol level
    • General tonic
    • In topical cream and ointment for revitalization of dry skin.
