Constituents :

       It contain hydroxyanthracene glycosides sennosides A and B and
aloe-emodin.

Medicinal uses :

       Short-term use in occasional constipation.
       Symptoms of overdose : griping and severe diarrhea with consequent
losses of fluid and electrolytes.

                     Star Anise (Chinese star anise)

       Dried ripe fruit of Illicium verum family Magnoliaceae.

Constituents :

       Voletile oil containing 80-90% of the phenolic ether anethole.

Medicinal uses :

   • Tea as a carminative and sedative for the treatment of infant colics,
       Catarrhs of respiratory tract and peptic discomfort.

   • Industrial source of shikimic acid (extracted from the seed) e.g.
       Tamiflu.

                               Bitter orange peel

       Fresh or dried outer part of pericarp of ripe or nearly ripe fruits of Citrus
aurantium family Rutaceae.

Constituents :

    • It contains about 2.5% volatile oil mainly consists of limonene.
    • Bioflavonoids (Hesperidin-vitamin P), Naringin.
    • Bitter principle : Limonoids (Limonin).
    • Pectin (complex carbohydrate).
    • Juice (Citric acid, vitamins A, B and C).
    • Phenols, furanocoumarins.
