Poppy capsules
Dried nearly ripe capsule of papaver somniferum family papaveraceae.
It is true, simple, dry, dehiscent capsule open by pores.
Constituents :
It is considered as a source of crude opium which contains alkaloids as
morphine, codeine, papaverine and narceine combined with meconic acid.
Uses :
1- Source of opium.
2- Narcotic analgesic.
3- Sedative.
Vanilla pod
It is dried unripe, full grown, cured capsule of vanilla planifolia family
orchidaceae.
It is true, simple, dry dehiscent capsule open by 2 unequal valves.
Constituents : glycosides glucovanillin.
Uses : flavouring agent and in perfumes.
